Using their recently updated self-referral program, patients can schedule their own MRI appointment with MSK Doctors Open MRI Scanner, or a Dynamic Motion MRI. Scans booked through the program can be completed in one week or less, after an optional pre-scan consultation with a musculoskeletal specialist.

The Open MRI Scanner from MSK doctors differs from traditional MRI scanners in several ways and is useful for scanning patients who suffer from claustrophobia. The open design of the device uses magnets above and below the scanning area, like a traditional MRI, but has open sides that allow for easier scanning of certain body parts and types.

The self-referral program includes an option to schedule a Dynamic MRI using the Open MRI Scanner, to capture images of a body part, spine, or joint, in motion. This technique is difficult or impossible with traditional MRI devices because patients have no room to move in the enclosed space.

Patients who use the self-referral program will also have access to MSK Doctors’ expert team, which is focused solely on musculoskeletal conditions and their treatment. Every MRI-based diagnosis is completed by a UK Certified Harley Street specialist musculoskeletal consultant radiologist, and they do not consult reporting radiographers.

After their scan, patients will receive digital copies of their MRI images and the consulting radiologist’s report. They will also be given the option of referral to an MSK Doctors musculoskeletal specialist, with a preferential rate. While patients may schedule more than one scan per visit, the team recommends a maximum of 3 areas to be scanned per sitting.

Patients who use the self-referral program to schedule a Dynamic MRI Scan should know the scanning process is more complex, and their visit may require as much as 90 minutes.
