The clinic’s announcement coincides with the American Optometric Association’s (AOA) recent report about the increasing number of patients suffering from dry eye. The AOA explained that this can be directly attributed to eye strain, decreased blink rate, and incomplete blinking caused by constant exposure to computer screens.
BlephEx is an in-office procedure that alleviates the symptoms of blepharitis or swollen eyelids. ClearVision Institute uses the BlephEx handpiece, which has a medical-grade disposable microsponge, to remove dead skin, dirt, and debris which cause inflammation and discomfort. The entire process is painless and takes only about 10 minutes to complete.
For dry eye caused by acute blepharitis, one BlephEx session is usually enough to resolve the condition. However, the clinic recommends chronic blepharitis patients to have the procedure done every 4-6 months.
According to ClearVision Institute, IPL therapy is effective for moderate to severe dry eye that is caused by ocular rosacea or problems with the Meibomian gland. It delivers pulses of light in the periocular area which reduces redness and inflammation.
Though the procedure itself is not painful, some patients report that they feel a tingling or snapping sensation in the treated area. At ClearVision Institute, the area around the eye is numbed with a topical anesthetic to maximize patient comfort.
The clinic explains that the patient’s condition will improve within one or two sessions, but since rosacea is an inflammatory condition that can flare up at any time, several follow-up sessions are recommended. The clinic believes that one session monthly for the first 4-5 months is best for long-term results. For patients with less severe cases, the clinic recommends 1-2 sessions a year.
ClearVision Institute accepts both emergency cases and scheduled appointments. They are a full-service eye clinic that offers everything from complete eye exams to LASIK surgery and refractive procedures.
“We endeavor to enrich health, share knowledge, and provide hope with exceptional care and education to achieve a lifetime of healthy vision and well-being,” a spokesperson said.
